Carter Bearings Supports the Penguin Project of Muskegon Civic Theatre

The Penguin Project

Nine years ago, our accountant invited us to sponsor the first local Penguin Project play, a theater program pairing children with special needs with peer mentors. After attending that first performance, we wanted to invest in this organization.

  • Our Role: Annual sponsorship with a significant cash donation
  • Impact: Over 500 children, mentors, and families touched across nine productions

The joy these performances bring far outweighs the dollars involved. It’s a highlight of our year to help these kids shine on stage.

Grand Haven Schools On-the-Job Training

When the program director reached out, we immediately recognized the value of providing special-needs students with hands-on work experience.
  • Our Role: Hosting students at our facility to learn manufacturing tasks and workplace expectations
  • Impact: At least 10 students have gained real-world experience; several have joined Carter as full-time team members

This program helps young adults transition from school to meaningful careers—and we’re honored to be part of that journey.

Carter the Police Dog

Co-owners of Carter Bearings, Jeff Berry and Jeff Braak, both share a strong connection to local law enforcement. Jeff served as a part-time police officer for 20 years. So when the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety needed a sponsor for a new K-9, Jeff jumped at the chance.

  • Our Role: Funding and naming Grand Haven’s explosives-detection dog, “Carter”
  • Recognition: Honored by GHDPS for our contribution
